We met Lisa through the internet, like we meet many of our closest friends and collaborators. Lisa has given us the support and confidence that we often forget we need. She is defining a movement that reshapes how we think about the places we travel to. From how we find places, to how we book them and most importantly how we engage with the place, people and ideas when we get there.
The Lost Grape | Lenora and Keith
These two just relocated from the East coast to Central Wisconsin bringing with them a wealth of knowledge about history and The Grape!
Dave and Maud Mangin
Dave and Maud are what we call the “Early Birds”. They moved to Nelsonville in 2014 when there were actually houses available! Coming from Milwaukee, Dave was doing programming that bridged urban youth to rural community. He now serves as chair on the Park Commission. Maud has taken advantage of small town living. Not only has she worked at the Ruby tasting room, but she has developed her healing business through spaces like Waller’s Market (downtown Nelsonville) and at the community center in the next town over.
Jared and Deanna of Ruby Coffee
These two really set the benchmark for moving from the west coast (LA, PDX, SEA) to rural community and thriving in all its glory. Jared started roasting out of their family garage just 15 minutes North of Nelsonville back in 2013. When business needed a larger location I remember the debate between “big city” Stevens Point or obscure “Nelsonville”, even then I was rooting for small town. These two set a precedent for folks like Zay and I, showing us it is possible to thrive out of the metropolis and grow roots in rural space.
James and Sam of Bird and the Bees
These two are what we consider the slow movers, ramblers and shakers. For the most part they live on a 1960’s refurbished Greyhound bus in Minnesota with their bird and bees. In the winter they head to a farm in California where they work in the bee business, but summers they venture back to Central Wisconsin to develop their homestead. We never know where they are going to be, but the fact we get to learn more about their commitment to the life during this retreat is a real honor!
We are an inclusive community lodging facility located along the Tomorrow River in Nelsonville, Wisconsin hosting artists, workshops and special events.
